First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) has issued the Middle East and North Africa's first digital green bond, valued at $272.3 million. The three-year Digitally Native Green Notes were issued on October 13 and settled on Thursday. The bond, priced at an interest rate of 5.75%, will mature on October 15, 2029.

The bond was issued through Euroclear’s Digital Financial Market Infrastructure (D-FMI) and will support projects with environmental or climate-related benefits. This marks FAB's second digital bond listing on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange (ADX), following its inaugural digital bond issuance in 2025.

FAB and Standard Chartered Bank served as Digitally Native Notes Structurers. Emirates NBD Bank, FAB, HSBC, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia), and Standard Chartered Bank acted as Joint Lead Managers.

FAB is also expanding its blue financing initiatives. In September, the bank set a $27.2 billion target to support water and blue economy-related financing between 2026 and 2035. Earlier in June, FAB partnered with Water.org and WaterEquity to invest in expanding access to safe water and sanitation across emerging markets.

As of the first half of 2026, FAB had facilitated $107.6 billion in sustainable and transition financing, achieving 79% of its target.

**Context:** This development underscores the growing intersection of sustainable finance and digital capital markets, highlighting the UAE's leadership in financial innovation and commitment to a low-carbon economy.
