Arab Heritage Showcased at Morocco's 17th Annual Horse Show

The 17th annual Horse Show in El Jadida, Morocco, opened with a strong Arab presence, featuring traditional equestrian arts from Oman and the UAE. The event, running until October 18, hosts Oman and the UAE as guests of honor, alongside Turkey. The show features various performances, including the traditional 'Al-Tahourib' from Oman and 'Al-Ayala Al-Emiratiya' from the UAE.
Daily, the pavilions of Oman and the UAE welcome hundreds of visitors, particularly Moroccans, who engage with traditional saddles, bridles, costumes, and jewelry showcasing the diversity of Arab equestrian heritage.
Oman's pavilion, located at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Center, highlights the unique aspects of Omani equestrian traditions. These include cotton saddles without stirrups, silver bridles and headgear, silver-engraved knives, and ivory- topped daggers.
Colonel Ahmed bin Khalfan Al Lamki, Director General of the Royal Omani Cavalry, emphasized the importance of these exhibits in showcasing Omani equestrian traditions and their contributions to the horse sector, both within and outside the sultanate.
Al Lamki noted that the Omani participation includes several equestrian performances, such as 'Al-Rakd Al-Sharqi,' 'Tanoom Al-Khayl,' and 'Al-Tahourib.' These three arts are connected to equestrianism and the return of warriors from battles, with songs expressing victory and safe return.
'Tanoom Al-Khayl' is a practice performed by Omani horsemen and women, while 'Al-Tahourib' is an ancient traditional art involving songs of gratitude for victory in war, which Oman continues to preserve.
