Senegal's Prime Minister, Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô, visited Ivory Coast's economic capital on October 19 to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit included meetings with Ivory Coast's Prime Minister, Robert Beugré Mambé, and President Alassane Ouattara.

Lô's visit was described as both a friendly and working trip. The Senegalese Prime Minister's agenda included discussions on enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

Both Senegal and Ivory Coast are members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The visit comes at a time when regional cooperation is seen as crucial for economic development and security in the region.

No specific agreements were announced during the visit, but the meetings were seen as a step towards revitalizing the partnership between Dakar and Abidjan.

This visit by Lô is part of a broader effort by Senegal to engage more closely with its West African neighbors. In recent months, Senegal has been actively seeking to strengthen its regional ties, particularly in the areas of trade, security, and infrastructure development.

Ivory Coast, as the largest economy in the region, is a key partner for Senegal in these efforts. The two countries share a border and have a history of cooperation, but there have been calls for renewed efforts to deepen their bilateral relations.

While in Ivory Coast, Lô also met with other high-ranking officials and business leaders to explore opportunities for increased collaboration in various sectors.

CONTEXT/BACKGROUND: This visit is significant as it underscores the importance of regional cooperation in West Africa. With shared challenges such as economic development, security, and infrastructure, countries like Senegal and Ivory Coast are increasingly looking to strengthen their ties to address these issues collectively. The visit also highlights the role of ECOWAS in facilitating such cooperation and the potential for enhanced bilateral relations to drive regional growth and stability.
