Staff at the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London have announced plans to strike across all four of the museum's sites on October 29 and 30. The strike, organized by the Prospect Union's heritage division and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), follows previous strike actions in September. The unions are seeking improvements to pay and working conditions.

The upcoming strike is the result of ongoing disputes, including allegations of inadequate breaks for hydration and restroom use at the newly opened V&A East Storehouse. Staff have also called for a minimum pay increase of 4% across the board, as well as an increase in the minimum hourly wage for the lowest-paid staff to £14.80. This would make the V&A a Real London Living Wage accredited employer.

Prospect Union's general secretary, Mike Clancy, has accused V&A Director Tristram Hunt of refusing to participate in negotiations with the unions, stating that this shows a lack of respect for the staff. The unions have emphasized that the dedicated staff are crucial to the museum's status as a world-class attraction.

Negotiations between the unions and the museum are ongoing, but the strike is set to proceed as planned unless a resolution is reached before October 29.

**Context:** The strike highlights ongoing tensions between museum staff and management regarding working conditions and pay. The V&A is one of the world's leading museums of art and design, with a collection spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum's staff are seeking to ensure that their working conditions and pay reflect the institution's global standing and the importance of their roles in maintaining and presenting its collections.
