The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) has joined the SWIFT network, a global financial messaging system, to improve its post-trade services and international communication. The move, effective immediately, introduces a new Business Identifier Code (BIC) for the exchange, ADSEAEADXXX.

This integration allows the exchange to securely share financial instructions and data with international custodians, central securities depositories, and other market participants worldwide. The exchange will now operate under unified international standards, streamlining procedures for institutions serving international investors.

SWIFT itself is a network for exchanging financial messages and instructions, but does not execute share trading or transfer funds. The integration aims to enhance the compatibility of different systems, providing a foundation for developing post-trade procedures, including clearing, settlement, and custody.

Economic analyst and expert Wadah Al-Tah commented that this step represents a significant advancement for the Abu Dhabi market, aiding its efforts to attract more international investors and expand its regional presence.

According to a statement by the Emirates News Agency, the market capitalization to GDP ratio for Abu Dhabi reached 261.7% in 2025, compared to an Arab average of 129.9%, as reported by the Union of Arab Stock Exchanges. The global average was 149%, with high-income economies at 188%, based on data from the World Federation of Exchanges.

The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange Group received the award for the 'Arab Market with the Highest Market Capitalization to GDP Ratio' for 2025 at the annual conference of the Union of Arab Stock Exchanges in Abu Dhabi.

This development is part of ADX's broader strategy to expand its international footprint and solidify Abu Dhabi's position as a global financial hub. The exchange has been actively pursuing regional partnerships to enhance cooperation and integration within the financial sector.

CONTEXT: This move is significant as it enhances Abu Dhabi's financial market infrastructure, making it more attractive to international investors and aligning it with global standards. It also positions Abu Dhabi as a key player in the regional financial landscape, potentially drawing more investment and fostering economic growth.
