··1 min read
French astronaut Sophie Adenot has returned to Earth after spending nearly eight months in space. She has been readjusting to Earth's sensations, notably the variety of smells.
Adenot has been sharing her experiences from her time on the International Space Station (ISS). She described the unique smells she encountered, which, while less frequent, were quite surprising.
One notable smell Adenot mentioned was the scent of burnt material that marks the end of an extravehicular activity (EVA).
She also highlighted the distinct odors that accompany life in space, contrasting sharply with the familiar scents of Earth.
This mission was Adenot's first long-duration spaceflight, providing her with a wealth of new experiences and insights into life beyond Earth.
CONTEXT: This mission underscores the ongoing international efforts in space exploration and the valuable data and experiences astronauts bring back to Earth. It also highlights the unique challenges and adaptations required for long-duration space missions, including the sensory differences between Earth and space.
