Morocco's Mounted Police Share Expertise with Africa at Exhibition

Casablanca, Morocco — Morocco's Mounted Police are currently showcasing their roles and exchanging experiences with African counterparts at an exhibition in Casablanca. The event, in its seventeenth edition, is being held at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Center and will run until October 18. The exhibition attracts visitors of all ages, including schoolchildren and those considering post-baccalaureate career paths.

Visitors to the Mounted Police section of the exhibition are greeted by officers who provide detailed explanations of the unit's duties, its close relationship with horses, and the training required to join. The display highlights the importance of equestrian sports within the unit, featuring awards won by the 'mounted security officers' in national equestrian competitions, including the Royal Moroccan Jumping Derby. Additionally, the exhibition showcases the unit's commitment to traditional equestrian heritage, featuring traditionally embroidered Moroccan saddles.

Mohamed El Katabi, a distinguished security officer in the Mounted Police, emphasized the importance of passion and dedication in the role. He noted that the unit aims to provide comprehensive explanations of their duties and answer visitors' questions. The unit, based in the city of Kenitra, is responsible for training new recruits who have completed basic training at the Royal Police Institute or its affiliated schools and have expressed a willingness to join the National Mounted Police.

El Katabi highlighted the emotional bond between the officers and their horses, stating that the horses' well-being is a priority, including regular care, proximity, and healthcare. This bond is crucial for the officers' effectiveness on the streets. He also mentioned that the training process for new recruits, which can last from 6 to 8 months or more, combines theoretical and practical elements to ensure that graduates are proficient in both security and sports tasks.

The exhibition also serves as a platform for the Mounted Police to share their organizational structure and roles with African counterparts, fostering international cooperation and knowledge exchange.
