RABAT, Morocco — King Mohammed VI of Morocco has appointed a new government, led by Aziz Akhannouch, following the parliamentary elections held in September 2021. The new government, which includes 24 ministers and 11 secretaries of state, was sworn in at the Royal Palace in Rabat on October 7, 2021.

Aziz Akhannouch, the leader of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) party, has been appointed as the new head of government. The RNI party secured 102 seats in the 395-seat House of Representatives, making it the largest party in the parliament.

The new government includes ministers from several political parties, including the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP). The government also includes several independent ministers.

The new government's priorities include economic development, job creation, and social justice. The government has also pledged to combat corruption and promote good governance.

King Mohammed VI has called on the new government to work towards achieving these goals and to serve the interests of the Moroccan people.

CONTEXT: Morocco's political system is a constitutional monarchy, with the king serving as the head of state and the prime minister serving as the head of government. The parliament is bicameral, consisting of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. The House of Representatives is elected by universal suffrage, while the House of Councillors is elected by an electoral college. The new government's appointment comes after a period of political uncertainty following the parliamentary elections. The previous government, led by Saadeddine El Othmani, resigned in August 2021, following the RNI's victory in the parliamentary elections.
