A 33-year-old man has been arrested and detained in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old Tunisian woman, Leila Ben Salem, in Montreal's Ville-Marie borough. The suspect, identified as Youcef Moussaoui, was taken into custody on October 10. He is scheduled to appear in Montreal's court on charges of first-degree murder.

The Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the arrest and stated that evidence gathered during the investigation will be presented during the judicial process. The motive behind the killing remains undisclosed, and authorities have not confirmed a connection between the suspect and the victim. However, they have ruled out a domestic dispute as the cause of the murder.

Ben Salem was killed on September 22 while on a video call with a colleague, who witnessed the crime. The SPVM's Section des crimes majeurs is leading the investigation.
