Apple Plans Larger HomeView Device with Rotating Screen

Apple is planning to release a larger version of its HomeView device, featuring a 9-inch screen mounted on a motorized arm, according to a report by Bloomberg. The new device, codenamed J595, is expected to launch in the United States in late 2027 or 2028, with no immediate plans for a European release. The device will not replace the current HomeView model but will be part of a separate product line targeting users seeking a more advanced experience.
The upcoming HomeView device is anticipated to have a screen that can rotate 360 degrees, allowing it to automatically face the person speaking, using advanced voice recognition technology. This feature will enable multiple users to interact with the device simultaneously, such as following a recipe in the kitchen without manually adjusting the screen. Additionally, the motorized arm will enhance video calls through FaceTime, as the screen and front camera can follow the user as they move around the room, providing more freedom of movement during calls.
The new HomeView device is expected to retain the basic functionalities of the current model, including access to the Siri voice assistant, control of smart home devices, music playback, and video calls. The device will be priced higher than the current HomeView, which is set to launch in the U.S. on November 13, 2024, at a starting price of $299.
CONTEXT: This development highlights Apple's ongoing efforts to innovate in the smart home market, catering to users who seek advanced and high-end experiences. The introduction of a larger HomeView device with enhanced features aligns with the company's strategy to expand its product offerings and maintain its competitive edge in the tech industry.
