Trade unions in Morocco have criticized the government's recent proposals, presented to parliament, for lacking clear timelines and accountability mechanisms. The Democratic Labor Confederation's Executive Bureau will meet to evaluate the government's response to social and economic expectations and the clarity of commitments and their implementation mechanisms.

The unions expressed concern that the government's program, expected to be approved by the House of Representatives, addresses raising the minimum pension to 3,000 dirhams but does not sufficiently address pension fund reforms, a topic of debate since the previous government.

The unions highlighted that education, health, and social conditions are key issues requiring clear treatment in the government's program. The unions noted that the current statement does not differ much from previous government statements due to the absence of specific, time-bound commitments for implementation.

Linking some goals to the end of the government's term, after five years, does not allow for adequate evaluation of progress during different stages of the term. It also does not provide necessary data for tracking government pledges and holding responsible parties accountable.

Regarding social support, the unions pointed out that the lack of precise and scheduled deadlines for implementing commitments, such as raising social support to 1,000 dirhams by the end of the term, limits the ability to track and evaluate results and raises questions about fulfillment by the end of the government's term.

On education and health, the unions described the current situation as difficult, stating that the government's statement did not sufficiently clarify practical measures to improve public services and enhance health and education offerings in the public sector, amidst ongoing challenges.

The unions' criticisms come as the government seeks to address longstanding issues in Morocco's social and economic landscape, including pension reforms, education, and healthcare.

CONTEXT: The criticisms from trade unions highlight the ongoing challenges in Morocco's governance and the need for clear, time-bound commitments from the government to address critical social and economic issues.
