A Brazilian university rector, Rogério Renato Mateucci, died after being struck by falling debris at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday, October 16. The incident occurred during a walking tour of the property, which is owned and operated by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Heavy winds dislodged a piece of roof material, which struck Mateucci, who died instantly.

The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating the incident as a weather-related occurrence. Mateucci had been the rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in Brazil since 2022. He held multiple degrees in higher education leadership and was a member of the Marist Catholic order.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation expressed its condolences to Mateucci's family and loved ones. The property remains closed to the public until further notice, out of respect for privacy and to allow officials to complete their investigation.
