Kenya has confirmed a second case of Ebola, the Ministry of Health announced Wednesday. The patient is a close contact of the first confirmed case, who died last week. The second patient was already in quarantine when symptoms appeared. The Kenyan government has assured the public that the situation is under control.

The Ministry of Health has introduced new health measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The minister signed two orders to implement these measures at the start of the week.

The first order mandates the immediate isolation and monitoring of all individuals who have had contact with confirmed Ebola cases. The second order requires all travelers entering Kenya to undergo mandatory health screenings and provide proof of vaccination against Ebola.

These measures come as Kenya seeks to prevent the spread of the virus, which has been reported in neighboring Uganda. The first case in Kenya was detected in a traveler from Uganda.

Kenya's health authorities have been working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to manage the outbreak. The WHO has commended Kenya's swift response and has deployed a team of experts to support the country's efforts.

In addition to the new measures, Kenya has also intensified public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about Ebola symptoms, prevention, and treatment. The government has urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing that early detection and reporting of symptoms are crucial for effective control of the outbreak.

CONTEXT: The Ebola virus is a severe and often fatal illness in humans. It is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. The current outbreak in Uganda, which began in September, has raised concerns about the potential spread to neighboring countries, including Kenya. The virus has a high mortality rate, and outbreaks can be challenging to control due to the lack of effective treatments and vaccines.
