Microsoft has begun rolling out a new feature for Xbox users, enabling them to purchase additional cloud gaming hours for titles they already own. This service, announced in September, is now available to Xbox Insiders, allowing users to buy cloud playtime hours through the Xbox Store.

The new pricing structure for Xbox's Cloud Playtime purchases includes an introductory launch pricing of $4 for 10 hours (~$0.40/hour), $8 for 25 hours (~$0.32/hour), and $12 for 50 hours (~$0.24/hour). The purchased playtime does not expire and remains available until fully used.

This development comes after Microsoft limited the game-streaming options available to Game Pass subscribers in September. The company had previously indicated that non-subscribers would have the option to purchase cloud playtime hours.

Microsoft's move to offer cloud playtime purchases is part of a broader strategy to expand cloud gaming services. The company aims to provide more flexibility for users who prefer to stream games rather than download them, especially on devices with limited storage.

This new feature is currently available to Xbox Insiders, a group of users who test new features and provide feedback to Microsoft. The company has not yet announced a wider release date for the general public.

CONTEXT: This development is significant as it represents a shift in how users can access and play their games. It also highlights Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance its cloud gaming services, which are increasingly important in the gaming industry.
