New Israeli Settlement Plan Unveiled in East Jerusalem — royanews.tv

A new Israeli settlement plan for Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem has been revealed, aiming to build 122 housing units for settlers. The plan, identified as 1602689, targets the historic site of the Shiberd Hotel in the northeast part of the neighborhood, covering approximately 5.8 dunams. The project includes the construction of a multi-story residential building reaching up to 12 floors.

The site's ownership history dates back to the Husseini family, who were displaced by the Israeli authorities under the Absentee Property Law. The property was subsequently transferred to Israeli entities. The plan has not yet been presented to the local planning and construction committee, with the first discussion scheduled for November 11.

This development comes amid ongoing Israeli settlement activities in East Jerusalem, which have been a contentious issue in the region. The area has seen numerous settlement plans and expansions in recent years, adding to the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
