Google to Restrict Gemini Pro Models to AI Pro Subscribers

Google has informed subscribers of its AI Plus plan that access to Gemini Pro models will be restricted to those with AI Pro subscriptions or higher, starting from November 13, 2026. The change was first revealed through an email sent to AI Plus subscribers, with multiple users confirming receipt of the notification on Reddit.
Under the new policy, the selection of Gemini Pro models in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will be limited to AI Pro subscribers and above. This adjustment is set to take effect in 2026, giving current AI Plus users time to upgrade their plans if they wish to continue using the Gemini Pro models.
Google has not provided specific reasons for this change, but it is clear that the company is differentiating its AI offerings based on subscription tiers. This move may encourage AI Plus subscribers to consider upgrading to higher plans to retain access to the advanced Gemini Pro models.
This announcement comes as part of Google's ongoing efforts to refine and segment its AI services, potentially leading to more tailored experiences for users based on their subscription levels. The change is scheduled to go into effect in 2026, allowing ample time for users to adjust their plans accordingly.
CONTEXT: This development underscores the evolving landscape of AI services and the increasing importance of subscription tiers in determining access to advanced features. As AI technology continues to advance, companies like Google are likely to further segment their offerings, making it crucial for users to stay informed about changes to their subscription plans.
