Senegal's Gold Production Sees Significant Growth

DAKAR, Senegal — Senegal's gold production is projected to surpass 16 tonnes in 2026, marking a significant increase from the over 10 tonnes produced in 2025. This growth is fueled by new mining developments and favorable global gold prices.
While Senegal's gold output remains modest compared to neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso, the country's gold mining sector is experiencing robust growth. The sector is now the leading contributor to Senegal's mineral resources.
Three mines are currently operational in Senegal, with additional sites under development. The rising global price of gold has further boosted the country's mining industry, contributing to the anticipated increase in production.
This surge in gold production is expected to have a positive impact on Senegal's economy, potentially attracting more investment and creating job opportunities in the mining sector.
CONTEXT: Senegal's gold mining industry has seen substantial growth in recent years, driven by new mining projects and high global gold prices. This growth is significant as it positions Senegal as a key player in the regional gold mining sector, despite producing less than neighboring countries like Mali and Burkina Faso. The increase in gold production is expected to bring economic benefits, including job creation and increased investment in the mining industry.
