Algeria Moves Car Import Operations to New Port

Algeria will move its car import operations from the port of Mostaganem to the port of Djen Djen by December 31, 2023. The decision was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saeed Sidi. The move is part of the government's plan to designate the port of Mostaganem for public institutions and companies' import activities.
The directive was issued to benefit private importers, who will now conduct their operations at the port of Djen Djen. The decision aims to streamline the import process and improve efficiency.
Mostaganem, a major port on the Mediterranean, has been a key hub for car imports in Algeria. However, the government's new directive will see a shift in operations to Djen Djen, another significant port in the country.
The relocation is expected to enhance the overall import process, ensuring smoother operations for private importers and public institutions alike.
Context/Background: This move is part of a broader strategy to optimize port operations and improve the efficiency of import processes in Algeria. By designating specific ports for different types of import activities, the government aims to reduce congestion and enhance the overall logistics infrastructure.
