U.S. Detains Activist for Pro-Palestinian Online Activity
American border authorities detained Danish activist Guy Christensen for several hours at Los Angeles International Airport on 24th of August, 2023, due to his online pro-Palestinian activities. Christensen, a 41-year-old Danish national, was questioned for hours and his electronic devices were searched.
Christensen's detention coincided with the banning of his social media accounts. The activist has been vocal about his support for the Palestinian cause and has used his online platforms to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine.
Christensen was eventually released and allowed to enter the United States, but his electronic devices were not returned to him. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) did not provide an immediate comment on the incident.
This is not the first time that activists supporting the Palestinian cause have faced scrutiny at U.S. borders. In recent years, there have been several reports of individuals being detained, questioned, and denied entry due to their pro-Palestinian views.
Christensen's detention has sparked criticism from human rights organizations and free speech advocates, who argue that the U.S. government is infringing on the right to freedom of expression. They also expressed concerns about the increasing use of social media monitoring and the potential for misuse of power by border authorities.
