Algeria Accelerates Preparations for Major Highway Maintenance

Algerian authorities have begun preparations for extensive maintenance work on a major highway connecting several provinces. The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Abdelkader Jellali, inspected the damaged sections of the second bypass road of the capital, which is classified as a black spot. The road stretches 29 kilometers, connecting Bir Touta in Algiers to Khmis El Khachna in Boumerdes. The road is a crucial extension of the East-West highway.
The minister issued a series of instructions to ensure the smooth preparation and execution of the maintenance work. This includes creating a clear organizational plan that outlines the intervention program, organizing workshops, and coordinating work among various stakeholders. Additionally, institutions responsible for implementation and the necessary human and material resources will be mobilized to begin operations.
Jellali emphasized the importance of completing all field preparations and providing the necessary conditions for starting the work. This includes setting up workshops, installing vertical and horizontal signs, and managing traffic flow during the maintenance period to ensure smooth traffic and minimize disruption to road users. Continuous on-site monitoring of the work, adherence to set deadlines, and quality standards in execution were also highlighted.
During the inspection, the minister visited the regional headquarters of the Algerian Highway Agency in Khmis El Khachna. He reviewed various equipment and tools available, including surveillance cameras and signage boards. These tools are used to monitor and manage traffic flow along the highway network, which spans from Chlef to Bourg Bouarreridj. The minister also reviewed ongoing technical experiments in preparation for the operational use of this equipment.
