President Donald Trump has renewed his push to replace the term 'artificial intelligence' with 'super intelligence' in official documents and communications. In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump vowed to ban the term 'artificial intelligence' across all relevant federal documents and communications, marking his latest effort to promote the use of 'super intelligence' instead.

Trump's latest post questioned why major outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, continue to use the term 'artificial intelligence,' which he has described as 'a very bad and inaccurate name.' He asserted that 'everyone else is using, or soon will be' using the term 'super intelligence' instead.

This is not the first time Trump has expressed his displeasure with the term 'artificial intelligence.' In July 2025, he stated that he found the term too 'artificial' and preferred a name that reflected the 'genius' of the technology. In September 2026, he conducted a poll on Truth Social asking for alternative terms, leading to his preference for 'super intelligence.'

Trump signed an executive order in September directing federal departments and agencies to use the term 'super intelligence' instead of 'artificial intelligence.' The order did not require the editing of previously issued regulations, contracts, or documents but asserted that the executive branch would not acknowledge the usage of 'artificial intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting moving forward.

However, major national outlets and media guidelines, including The Associated Press Stylebook, continue to list 'artificial intelligence' as the proper term. Additionally, while some federal agencies and government databases have begun using 'super intelligence,' major national outlets and private companies, including Elon Musk's SpaceX, have not yet fully adopted the new term.

Trump's post did not specify how he plans to enforce this ban, as he cannot legally ban private citizens, private companies, or media outlets from using the term 'artificial intelligence.'
