Mali: Four pro-democracy activists appear in court after months in detention

Four pro-democracy activists in Mali were presented to a specialized court on Tuesday, 20th of October, after nearly six months of secret detention. The activists were held by state security forces in unknown locations, outside of any legal framework. They have been transferred to the detention center in Bamako.
The activists were presented to the judicial pole specialized in cybercrime. The court appearance comes after international pressure and concerns raised by human rights organizations over their prolonged detention and lack of access to legal representation.
Despite the court appearance of these four activists, there is still no information about the whereabouts of Mountaga Tall, a lawyer and former minister. He was the first to be detained by state security forces in May. Tall's detention has raised further concerns about the treatment of political activists and the rule of law in Mali.
Human rights groups have repeatedly called for transparency and due process in the handling of these cases. The United Nations and other international bodies have also expressed concern over the detention conditions and the lack of legal proceedings against the activists.
