Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, saw a significant surge of over 27% in its market debut on the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai. The company raised $3.2 billion (302 billion rupees) in its initial public offering (IPO), marking the largest IPO in India's history. The IPO was oversubscribed by over 20 times, with demand reaching 7.5 trillion rupees, and was fully subscribed within two hours on the first day of the offering.

Jio Platforms sold 270 million shares at 1,119 rupees each, at the top end of the price range. The successful IPO boosted the company’s market capitalization to $137 billion (13 trillion rupees), making it India’s second most valuable publicly traded company after its parent, Reliance Industries. The IPO attracted a wide range of investors, including 13 million Indian nationals and global institutional investors such as Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock, and Fidelity.

Akash Ambani, managing director of Jio Platforms and son of Mukesh Ambani, expressed gratitude to investors during the listing ceremony. He highlighted the unprecedented response and record-breaking demand from various investor categories. Jio Platforms, with over 533 million subscribers as of June, is India’s largest mobile carrier. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, the company reported a 14.6% increase in revenue to 1.5 trillion rupees and a 15% rise in net profit to 300 billion rupees.

Jio Platforms disrupted the telecoms industry when it launched in 2016, offering free voice calls and affordable data. The company has since expanded its digital footprint and plans to invest $110 billion over the next seven years in new data centers and artificial intelligence initiatives. Analysts view Jio Platforms as evolving from a telecom operator into a monetization-led digital platform, backed by an integrated technology stack. This positions Jio to build a scalable, differentiated digital infrastructure ecosystem with long-term earnings visibility.
