Maine College of Art & Design Opens MFA Applications for 2027

Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) in Portland has opened applications for its Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art program, with a start date of June 2027. The program offers both full and low residency options, catering to students seeking flexibility in their studies.
The MFA program at MECA&D encourages interdisciplinary thinking and intellectual curiosity. It emphasizes studio practice, individual research, and critical analysis. The curriculum spans six terms and includes intensive group sessions for research, travel, and dialogue.
Students in the full residency option have 24/7 access to private studios and fabrication facilities. The low residency option, one of the first of its kind in the country, allows students to work from anywhere in the world, combining on-campus instruction with independent study.
All MFA students are required to be in residence in Portland for eight weeks each summer. These summer intensives, held during the first and fourth terms, feature public lectures, studio visits, and group activities with renowned faculty, visiting artists, and critics.
The application deadline for a full-tuition scholarship is January 17, 2027. The priority acceptance deadline is February 21, 2027. Prospective students can learn more and apply at meca.edu/mfa.
