The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has declared its intention to update and review the files of all biosimilar drugs currently available in the Lebanese market. The goal is to verify that these drugs meet the required standards according to the updated rules of the World Health Organization, with a focus on patient safety.

This decision follows an internal investigation conducted by the ministry, which revealed that drugs seized by security forces, based on a directive from the Public Prosecutor, had been banned by a ministerial decree due to their failure to meet the necessary conditions for use and circulation in the Lebanese market.

The ministry emphasized that its approach is scientific and legal, prioritizing public health and citizen safety. The ministry also confirmed coordination with judicial and security agencies to serve the public interest.

A recent judicial operation resulted in the seizure of unfit drugs from a warehouse in the Galerie Semaan area of Beirut. The operation was met with resistance, requiring the intervention of the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces.

Minister of Public Health Rakan Nassereddine stated that the ministry is committed to ensuring that all biosimilar drugs in the market are safe and effective, aligning with updated WHO guidelines.

CONTEXT: This review is significant as it aims to enhance the safety and efficacy of medications available to Lebanese patients, aligning with global health standards and ensuring public trust in the healthcare system.
