The 92nd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Army announced on Monday, October 19, that a soldier had been evacuated from the battlefield using a heavy drone. This is the first time a soldier has been evacuated in this manner, according to the brigade.
The soldier was injured in an area surrounded by mines, making traditional evacuation methods too risky. The drone, typically used for bombing, was adapted for this rescue mission. The soldier was suspended beneath the drone and transported to safety.
Until now, unmanned evacuations have been carried out using ground robots. This method, however, presented challenges due to the rugged terrain and minefields. The use of a drone for this purpose is a significant advancement in military evacuation techniques.
The drone used in the operation is a heavy model, typically used for bombing missions. It was modified to include a harness system to safely transport the injured soldier. The operation was a success, with the soldier safely evacuated to a medical facility.
The Ukrainian military has been at the forefront of adopting new technologies in response to the ongoing conflict. This operation highlights their innovative approach to overcoming the challenges posed by the war.
CONTEXT: This development marks a significant advancement in military evacuation techniques. The use of drones for such operations could potentially save many lives in future conflicts, especially in areas where traditional evacuation methods are too risky. This operation also underscores the Ukrainian military's adaptability and innovation in the face of ongoing conflict.
