Gotion Power Morocco, a subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant Gotion High-Tech, is set to commence production at its large battery plant in Kenitra, Morocco, starting October 20. The plant will initially focus on producing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells, with a capacity of 20 Gigawatt hours. This move is part of a broader strategy to position Morocco as a key player in the global value chains of electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

The factory will produce both battery cells and battery packs for the automotive and energy storage sectors, catering to growing international demand. The plant aims to serve markets in Morocco, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, leveraging Morocco's geographic location and trade agreements. The plant is expected to employ over 400 Moroccan workers, including engineers, technicians, production workers, administrative staff, and support personnel. Most of these workers have undergone specialized training at Gotion High-Tech's factories in China, gaining expertise in battery technology.

Preparations for the plant's operation have involved significant logistical and technical efforts, including the transportation of thousands of containers filled with advanced industrial equipment from China to Morocco. This logistical process, described as unprecedented in scale for a Moroccan industrial project, has been coordinated with Moroccan port and customs authorities to ensure timely delivery and rapid completion of technical preparations.
