Algeria Establishes Cinema Support Committee

Algeria's Ministry of Culture and Arts established a new committee on Tuesday to support and evaluate cinema projects. The committee, known as the Reading and Cinema Support Committee, was inaugurated at the National Cinema Center in Algiers. The committee is part of efforts to create a comprehensive national cinematographic industry, aiming to renew the Algerian cinema scene and enhance its productive and creative capacities.

The minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Ben Doudou, emphasized the importance of the committee's expertise. She expressed confidence in its ability to bring a new spirit to Algerian cinema. The committee will play a central role in evaluating scripts and film projects, contributing to the development of national production in the coming years.

Ben Doudou welcomed Maisa Bay as the new chairperson of the committee, noting that Bay is the first woman to hold this position. This appointment reflects the importance of competence and experience in leading the support of Algerian cinema and shaping its future prospects.

The minister stressed the need for objectivity in studying and evaluating projects. This ensures that support is directed towards works that meet high artistic and creative standards, reflecting the richness of Algerian culture and the country's historical and civilizational status in the African, Arab, and Mediterranean regions.

Ben Doudou also highlighted the importance of a clear productive strategy. This strategy should support works with thematic orientations, enhance positive values in society, and open up to comedy drama. This approach will enrich the diversity of production and respond to the interests and aspirations of the public.

The establishment of this committee marks a new phase in supporting Algerian cinema. This phase focuses on stimulating creativity and establishing standards of transparency and objectivity.
