Rabat, Morocco — A Moroccan MP has denied allegations of betrayal following the selection of a new parliamentary team leader. Abdelnabi Ait Oudi, a member of parliament for the region of Sidi Kacem, has refuted claims that Mohamed Ouzine, the general secretary of the Sunflower Party, had betrayed him. The controversy arises from the selection of the new leadership for the parliamentary team of the Popular Movement Party in the House of Representatives.

Ait Oudi clarified that Ouzine had never promised him the leadership of the parliamentary team. Instead, Ouzine had discussed the possibility of a ministerial role, which was communicated to local party members and activists in Sidi Kacem. Ait Oudi emphasized that linking this promise to allegations of betrayal ignores the political context, noting that the party is currently in opposition, making discussions about ministerial appointments irrelevant.

The MP highlighted that fulfilling promises does not necessarily mean implementing them if circumstances change. He stressed that the selection of the parliamentary team's leadership is an organizational matter, with the party's general secretary and political bureau having the authority to make such decisions. Ait Oudi also noted that the renewal of responsibilities midway through the legislative term is a standard parliamentary practice, not an exclusion or a breach of commitments.

Regarding the selection of Rima Chabat as the new leader of the parliamentary team, Ait Oudi stated that this decision recognizes the capabilities of Moroccan women and their role in decision-making. He also noted that the appointment of Mohamed Al-Araj as the head of the productive sectors committee acknowledges his political experience and his contributions to the party over more than five legislative terms. This selection, according to Ait Oudi, balances the recognition of women's capabilities and loyalty to the party's experience and struggle.

Ait Oudi also denied reports that he was preparing to hold a press conference to reveal what was described as 'shocking' information related to the alleged betrayal or recent election campaign events.

**Context/Background:** The controversy highlights the internal dynamics and power struggles within Moroccan political parties, particularly in the context of parliamentary leadership selections. It also underscores the importance of transparency and communication in managing expectations and maintaining party cohesion. The situation is significant as it involves key figures within the Popular Movement Party and reflects broader issues of gender representation and political experience in Moroccan politics.
