Dubai's Ayyam Gallery opened a solo exhibition by Jordanian artist Hanan Hawa on March 15, 2024. The exhibition features 20 large-scale figurative paintings, all created in the past two years. The works will be on display until April 15, 2024.

Hawa's paintings are characterized by their large-scale depictions of women. The figures dominate the canvas, with faces often reduced to small, indistinct features. This stylistic choice creates a sense of anonymity, with individual identities subsumed into a collective representation of womanhood.

The exhibition, titled 'What Remains,' explores themes of memory, identity, and the passage of time. Hawa's use of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes imbues her work with a sense of energy and vitality, despite the introspective nature of the themes.

Hawa's work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions. She has participated in group shows in Amman, Beirut, and Dubai, and has had solo exhibitions in Amman and Cairo. This is her first solo exhibition in Dubai.

Hawa's paintings are created using a combination of acrylic and oil paints on canvas. She often begins with a sketch, then builds up layers of color and texture to create depth and dimension. Her process is both meticulous and spontaneous, allowing for a unique interplay between control and chance.

Hawa's work is part of a broader trend in contemporary art that challenges traditional notions of beauty and representation. By focusing on the collective rather than the individual, she invites viewers to consider the shared experiences and struggles of women.

The exhibition is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. Admission is free.

**Context:** Hanan Hawa's exhibition in Dubai contributes to the city's growing art scene, which has seen an increase in international artists and exhibitions in recent years. The exhibition also adds to the ongoing dialogue about contemporary art and the representation of women in the Middle East.
