Aqaba's Craftsmen Demand Reorganization of Industrial Zone

Aqaba, Jordan — Craftsmen in Aqaba are demanding the reorganization of the industrial zone, citing severe space constraints and inadequate infrastructure. The calls come amidst growing concerns over the zone's ability to meet the needs of the craft sector and accommodate the city's urban expansion.
The industrial zone, located at the entrance of Aqaba, is surrounded by residential areas and has not been reorganized since 1998. The current layout, which includes narrow spaces as small as eight meters, is insufficient for many craft activities, such as metalwork and vehicle maintenance, which require larger areas.
Kamel Younis Al-Qudra, head of the Mechanical Professions Syndicate in Aqaba, highlighted the challenges faced by craftsmen due to the zone's outdated infrastructure and limited development opportunities. He emphasized that the craftsmen support the idea of relocating and expanding the zone, provided that the new location offers better conditions and services.
Discussions on the future of the industrial zone were featured in the program 'Min Huna Nabda,' which aired on Roya TV. The program included insights from Na'il Al-Kabariti, former head of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce, and Kamel Younis Al-Qudra. The dialogue focused on the difficulties of improving the current situation, licensing requirements, and public safety, as well as options for relocation and expansion.
