Morocco Strengthens Cultural Heritage Protection with New Agreement

RABAT, Morocco — Morocco's National Security and National Museum Institutions have signed a new partnership agreement to enhance the protection of the country's cultural heritage. The agreement was signed by the Director General of National Security, and the President of the National Museum Foundation, at the headquarters of the National Security Directorate in Rabat.
The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between security services and the National Museum Foundation. It focuses on developing joint mechanisms to monitor and prevent crimes targeting cultural and historical properties, with an emphasis on combating the forgery, theft, and illegal trafficking of artistic and historical artifacts.
The agreement outlines an organizational framework to secure national museums and provide necessary security for the transfer of historical artifacts, ensuring their safety and protection from potential risks. It also includes the exchange of expertise and experiences between the two entities, as well as the organization of continuous training programs in handling artistic and historical works, and understanding the criminal methods used in their forgery, theft, and illegal trafficking.
As part of the collaboration, the National Museum Foundation will provide technical support and necessary oversight to enrich the 'National Security Museum,' contributing to the preservation and valuation of security and institutional memory.
Both parties emphasized the significance of this partnership in bolstering the protection of Morocco's material and historical heritage through coordinated security and cultural efforts, viewing the preservation of national heritage as a shared responsibility requiring integrated roles between the institutions.
CONTEXT: This agreement underscores Morocco's commitment to safeguarding its rich cultural heritage, which includes numerous historical sites, artifacts, and museums. By enhancing cooperation between security and cultural institutions, Morocco aims to better protect its heritage from threats such as theft, forgery, and illegal trafficking, ensuring these valuable assets are preserved for future generations.
