The Karachi Biennale, set to take place in Karachi, Pakistan, has canceled its fifth edition. The event, originally planned for January 16 through January 31, was to feature 72 artists from 18 countries. The cancellation was announced on October 9 via an Instagram statement, citing logistical constraints and uncertainties amid 'war conditions prevailing in the region.'

The Karachi Biennale Trust, the organization behind the event, did not provide specific details on the circumstances leading to the cancellation. The decision was made without the input of the biennale's curator, Noor Ahmed. Ahmed, who had been engaged with over 100 artists and practices for the biennale, expressed disappointment over the handling of communications and commitments with artists and partners.

Ahmed had enlisted three individuals to co-curate sections of the event. The Karachi Biennale Trust has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the cancellation. The biennale was to be held in Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan and the capital of its Sindh province.
