Morocco has revoked 1,490 licenses related to cannabis activities due to non-compliance with regulatory procedures. This action comes as the country's cannabis harvest season for 2026 is underway, with significant progress reported in the Taounate region, where 92% of the local variety has been harvested.

The revoked licenses affect approximately 1,800 farmers involved in 154 cooperatives, highlighting the extensive reach of regulatory oversight. The licenses cover various activities, including cultivation, importation of seeds, processing, marketing, export, and transport.

Of the revoked licenses, nearly 1,300 were held by farmers involved in cannabis cultivation, while 190 were held by entities engaged in other activities within the cannabis supply chain. The breakdown includes 60 licenses for seed importation, 45 for processing and manufacturing, 35 for marketing, 31 for export, 12 for seed export, and seven for transport.

This regulatory action is part of Morocco's ongoing efforts to monitor and enforce compliance within the legal cannabis industry. The harvest season for the imported variety of cannabis began in October and is expected to conclude in December 2026. The difference in harvest timings between the local and imported varieties reflects variations in the ripening stages of the crops.

The National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis Activities in Morocco has been intensifying its oversight to ensure that all activities related to cannabis cultivation and utilization for legal purposes adhere to the established regulatory framework.

CONTEXT: Morocco's cannabis industry is significant both economically and socially, employing thousands of farmers and contributing to the country's agricultural sector. The regulatory measures aim to ensure the industry's sustainability and compliance with legal standards, which is crucial for maintaining international trade and partnerships.
