Morocco imported 3.4% of the European Union's solar panel exports in 2025, according to recent data from Eurostat. This marks a notable shift in global renewable energy trade dynamics.

The data reveals that the EU imported significant amounts of renewable energy products, including solar panels and wind turbines. In 2024, the EU imported solar panels worth 8 billion euros, liquid biofuels worth 2.7 billion euros, and wind turbines worth nearly 700 million euros.

The value of the EU's wind turbine imports increased by 41% and the quantity by 69% in 2024. In contrast, the value of solar panel imports decreased by 28% between 2024 and 2025 due to global price reductions. During the same period, the value of wind turbine exports from the EU rose by 11% and the quantity by 9%, while solar panel exports decreased by 24% in value but increased by 3% in quantity. Liquid biofuel exports also saw a significant decline, both in quantity and value.

China was the largest supplier of wind turbines to the EU, accounting for about 60% of imports, followed by India with 22%. The UK was the largest market for EU-produced wind turbines, purchasing 31% of total exports. Malaysia was the top supplier of liquid biofuels to the EU in 2025, with over 22% of total purchases, followed by the United States and Argentina with 16% each, and Brazil with 10%. China's share of EU liquid biofuel imports dropped from 24% in 2024 to 1% in 2025 due to EU tariffs on Chinese imports.

Britain was the largest importer of EU-produced solar panels, accounting for 27% of total exports. China was the largest source of solar panel imports for the EU, followed by the United States.

**Context**: This matters because it highlights the evolving dynamics of global renewable energy trade, with significant implications for energy security, economic relations, and environmental sustainability. The shifts in import and export patterns reflect broader trends in renewable energy adoption and technological advancements, as well as the impact of trade policies and global market conditions.
