Washington D.C., October 8 - Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland introduced a bill yesterday calling on the Smithsonian Institution to document and exhibit artifacts from the Trump administration. The bill, titled the 'Preserving and Remembering the History of Trump and other Tyrants Act,' directs the Smithsonian to collect items reflecting what Raskin describes as 'governmental propaganda, corruption, and authoritarianism' during Trump's presidential terms.

The proposed legislation aims to create a permanent display at the National Museum of American History (NMAH). Among the suggested artifacts are items related to Executive Order 14416, which mandated content warning signs outside the NMAH. Additionally, the bill mentions banners featuring Trump's portrait installed on federal buildings, and other objects depicting what Raskin describes as 'narcissistic self-worship and propagandistic assault on American history and American democracy.'

The bill also includes communications and testimonials that the Smithsonian deems historically relevant to the Trump era. Raskin stated that documenting these actions is crucial to prevent a repeat of what he describes as a 'descent into authoritarianism.' He believes that studying Trump's presidency will allow the public to learn about the tools deployed during his administration.
