Three of the world's leading museums have formed an unprecedented alliance to share collections and collaborate on exhibitions. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and M+ in Hong Kong announced the agreement on October 1, 2025.

The partnership will grant each museum access to the others' holdings, enabling increased viewership, collaborative curation, and enhanced research opportunities. The alliance comes just ahead of M+'s fifth anniversary in its physical location in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District, and shortly after MoMA appointed Christophe Cherix as its director.

This collaboration follows a trend of museums pooling resources and jointly acquiring artworks in response to financial challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York announced plans to merge with Ronald Lauder's Neue Galerie, with the process set to begin in 2028.

M+ Museum Director Suhanya Raffel emphasized the importance of this evolution, stating that museums must adapt to reflect the complexity of the modern world. The alliance builds on previous collaborations between the museums, including a memorandum of understanding signed by M+ and MoMA in early 2025, which established shared curatorial, conservation, and scholarship objectives. Additionally, M+ and Centre Pompidou formed a strategic partnership this spring to strengthen cultural dialogue between their respective continents through joint exhibitions, collections sharing, and a funded fellowship.

M+ is home to the Sigg collection of contemporary Chinese art, along with thousands of other contemporary works from across Asia. The museum's strategic location in Hong Kong positions it as a key player in fostering cultural exchange between the East and the West.

This alliance marks a significant step in the global museum community's efforts to enhance accessibility, collaboration, and cultural exchange. By sharing resources and expertise, these institutions aim to provide a more comprehensive and diverse viewing experience for audiences worldwide.
