Armed Attack in Nigerian Village Leaves at Least 20 Dead

On Saturday, a group of armed men on motorcycles stormed a village in Nigeria, killing at least 20 people. The attack occurred in the rural village of Binari in Taraba State, following Friday prayers. The assailants opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic and forcing residents to flee into nearby forests and areas for safety.
Survivors described the scene as horrifying, with people running in different directions to escape the sudden assault. A resident, Isaaku Musa, recounted the chaos, stating that people were fleeing in all directions to save their lives. Saidu Noah, another resident, confirmed the death toll, saying that after the attackers left, they counted more than 20 bodies scattered on the ground, with many others still missing. The police reported a lower casualty figure, initially confirming 10 deaths, with investigations ongoing.
The attackers, estimated to be around 50, arrived on motorcycles, with two armed men on each. They looted shops, seized food supplies and motorcycles left behind by fleeing residents. The local official, Malam Abu Bakr Sifillah, provided details of the attack, noting the extensive looting and theft that occurred during the assault.
The attack in Binari is the latest in a series of violent incidents in northern Nigeria, where armed groups have targeted rural communities. The region has seen a rise in criminal activities, including kidnappings, robberies, and killings, causing widespread fear and displacement among residents.
