Algeria's insurance sector experienced a 3% growth in the first half of 2026, achieving a total business volume of 102.8 billion dinars. This growth was driven by various segments within the industry, according to the National Insurance Council.

Damage insurance continued to dominate the market, accounting for 79.6% of the total business volume. In contrast, personal insurance made up 13%, while international reinsurance, which involves reinsuring risks at the international level, contributed 6.6% of the total production. This segment saw a 9.4% increase, reaching 6.7 billion dinars.

The cooperative insurance sector saw 70,127 contracts signed during the same period, with total contributions amounting to 876.8 million dinars. This was divided between general cooperative insurance at 508.6 million dinars and family cooperative insurance at 368.2 million dinars.

Meanwhile, the damage insurance branch recorded a total business volume of 81.8 billion dinars, up from 80.5 billion dinars in June 2025, marking a 1.6% increase. The number of insurance contracts signed also rose to 4,918,050, compared to 4,712,023 in the first half of the previous year, a 4.4% increase. The National Insurance Council attributed this positive performance to moderate growth in business volume and an expansion of the client portfolio, particularly in sectors like automotive, agricultural, and transport insurance.

However, certain technical branches, such as fire insurance, multiple risks, and credit insurance, experienced a decline.
