iPhone Duo's Durability and Design Highlighted in iFixit Teardown

iFixit has released a teardown of the iPhone Duo, awarding it a 5 out of 10, the highest score ever given to a foldable smartphone. The teardown was published on September 2023.

The iPhone Duo has shown to be more resistant to dust than the Galaxy and Pixel models. The teardown revealed an innovative design, with a unique hinge mechanism that sets it apart from other foldable devices.

Despite its strengths, iFixit identified a potential weakness in the hinge design. The hinge protrudes into the area where the screens are most likely to break, raising concerns about durability.

iFixit's analysis also highlighted the complexity of the iPhone Duo's internal components, suggesting that repairs could be challenging. The device's design incorporates several intricate parts that are not typically found in other smartphones.

This teardown is part of a broader trend of increased scrutiny on foldable smartphones, as manufacturers strive to improve durability and design. The iPhone Duo's performance in this teardown will likely influence consumer perceptions and industry standards.

iFixit is known for its detailed teardowns of electronic devices, providing insights into their design, repairability, and overall quality. The organization's assessments are highly regarded in the tech community for their thoroughness and objectivity.

This teardown comes at a time when foldable smartphones are gaining traction in the market, with several major manufacturers releasing new models. The iPhone Duo's unique design and high dust resistance make it a notable entrant in this competitive field.
