Morocco has officially endorsed the United Arab Emirates' candidate, Lana Zaki Nseir, for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. The support was announced by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad.

Nseir, the UAE's candidate, expressed gratitude to Morocco for its backing. She emphasized the shared belief in the necessity of strengthening multilateralism and the role of the UN in maintaining global peace and security.

Nseir's candidacy is supported by her extensive diplomatic experience within the UN. She served as the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN from 2013 to 2024, held the position of Deputy President of the UN General Assembly, and chaired the Executive Board of UN Women. Additionally, she has been involved in various initiatives related to global peace, sustainable development, and UN reform.

The UAE formally announced Nseir's candidacy in 2024, adding a new contender to the race for the UN's top position. The new Secretary-General will begin their term on January 1, 2027, following the established selection process within the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

Morocco's endorsement comes as consultations for selecting the next Secretary-General continue, with multiple candidates vying for the position. The selection process involves complex negotiations within the UN Security Council, which recommends a candidate to the General Assembly for final approval.
