Zimbabwean Woman Released After Seven-Year Detention

Marry Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of Zimbabwe's vice-president, was released from detention on Friday after the collapse of her attempted murder case. Mubaiwa had been held on remand for seven years, having been charged in 2019.
The case against Mubaiwa, which involved allegations of attempting to kill her then-husband, was dismissed by the court due to lack of evidence.
Mubaiwa's legal team had argued that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to support the charges. The court agreed, leading to the dismissal of the case.
Mubaiwa's release comes after years of legal battles and detention. Her case had drawn significant attention due to her high-profile status as the ex-wife of a prominent political figure.
Human rights activists have long advocated for her release, citing concerns over her prolonged detention without a fair trial.
