Gold prices dropped to $4,039.26 per ounce on Thursday, influenced by the strength of the US dollar and anticipation of upcoming US inflation data. The Federal Reserve maintained interest rates, and investors are now focusing on the upcoming inflation report.

The decline in gold prices was driven by a 0.7% decrease in spot prices, reaching $4,039.26 per ounce, while US futures contracts for January delivery settled at $4,051. The strong US dollar increased the cost of gold for holders of other currencies, reducing demand and pressuring gold prices.

The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, as expected, within a range of 3.75% to 4%. The decision to delay any new adjustments in borrowing costs until after the midterm elections next week, as the bank acknowledged that inflation remains high. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, there is a 78% chance of a rate hike in the future.
