Fatima Al-Zahraa, a resident of Dwar Al-Dilala in Ain Chock, Casablanca, is in a battle for alternative housing after being denied a flat she was promised. She is currently living in a slum area, while her son is undergoing cancer treatment.

Fatima was informed that she was not eligible for the housing unit despite meeting all the criteria set by the authorities. She was expecting to receive the keys to Apartment 14, Building 15, registered under the cadastral number “100355/47” in the “CITY SIDI MAAROUF – GH02” project in Ain Chock.

Fatima's struggle began in 2016 when she hoped that the relocation process would provide her and her family with a decent home, ending years of poor living conditions. However, her hopes were dashed when authorities refused to hand over the apartment keys, citing that she did not reside in the slum area.

In 2021, a committee visited her home as part of a census of affected families. The committee documented her living conditions and noted her son's health issues. In 2025, during the demolition process, Fatima complied with all administrative procedures, including obtaining a demolition certificate. Despite this, she was told she was not eligible for the housing unit.

Documents reviewed by Hespress, including a residency certificate dated December 13, 2024, confirm that Fatima resides at Dwar Al-Dilala, Zenaga 01, Number 17, Ain Chock. Additionally, a demolition certificate dated February 12, 2025, signed by the deputy commander, states that the property “Blessing Number A39” owned by Fatima and her husband was demolished.

Fatima's case highlights the challenges faced by many residents in informal settlements who are promised alternative housing but face bureaucratic hurdles and delays. Her situation is further complicated by her son's cancer diagnosis, adding to the urgency of her need for stable housing.
