Wrexham AFC has secured promotion to the English Football League after a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on 30 October 2026.
The match, played at the Racecourse Ground, saw Wrexham dominate the first half, scoring two goals. Sheffield United responded with a goal in the second half, but Wrexham's third goal in the 85th minute sealed their victory and promotion.
Wrexham's promotion marks a significant milestone for the club, which has been owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2021. The club's journey from the fifth tier to the Football League has been closely followed by fans and media alike, with the team's success attributed to a combination of strategic investments and community engagement.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, will remain in the National League for the 2027-2028 season. The team's performance this season has been underwhelming, with several key players injured and a lack of consistency in their gameplay.
Wrexham's promotion is a testament to the club's resilience and determination, as well as the support of their passionate fan base. The team's success has also brought attention to the club's unique ownership structure, with Reynolds and McElhenney's involvement adding a Hollywood twist to the world of football.
