Syrian Foreign Minister Denounces Israeli Aggressions in Golan Heights

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shibanii has accused Israel of conducting over a thousand military incursions into Syrian territory in less than two years. He demanded an immediate return to pre-June 1967 borders and the implementation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Shibanii made these remarks during a session on regional security at the 22nd round of the Manama Dialogue 2026.
He emphasized that the Golan Heights are Syrian land and not subject to Israeli control. Shibanii asserted that UN Security Council Resolution 497, passed in 1981, is the legal framework that nullifies Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights, rendering it null and void. He also highlighted the ongoing application of the Fourth Geneva Convention to protect civilians in the occupied Syrian territories since 1967.
Shibanii underscored that achieving stability in the Middle East depends on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and establishing a serious political path towards an independent Palestinian state.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024, Israeli forces have continued their incursions into the provinces of Quneitra, Daraa, and the outskirts of Damascus, alongside air strikes.
