Around 100 passengers on a Flydubai flight from the United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv are planning to file lawsuits seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation. The lawsuits will target the airline, the state of Israel, and the transport ministries of both Israel and the UAE. The passengers are expected to sue under the Montreal Convention, an international agreement on flight passenger compensation, to which both Israel and the UAE are signatories. The passengers are also considering whether provisions of the 2020 Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and the UAE, were violated.

The alleged hijacking attempt occurred on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv in February. The flight was diverted after the co-pilot, an Omani national, allegedly attempted to attack the captain. A steering committee, headed by an Israeli passenger who helped restrain the co-pilot, has been formed to represent the passengers in the potential legal action. The committee includes several other passengers who were on the flight. The majority of the flight's 170 passengers have authorized the committee to represent them. The passengers could potentially receive up to $250,000 each in compensation, which could result in a payout of over $45 million. The co-pilot remains in custody in the UAE. He is accused of planning to crash the plane into Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport, allegedly inspired by the 2001 attacks on the United States.

This legal action comes after a preliminary review by law firms found a section of the Abraham Accords which relates to flight regulations between the UAE and Israel. The passengers are considering whether this section was violated during the incident. The potential lawsuits could have significant implications for aviation safety and international relations between the UAE and Israel.
