The Minnesota Vikings' loss to the New York Giants on Sunday ensured that the 1972 Miami Dolphins' perfect season record remains unbroken.
The Vikings, who had been one of the few remaining teams with a chance to go undefeated, fell 27-24 in a closely contested game at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The loss means that no team has matched the Dolphins' 1972 achievement of a 14-0 regular season and Super Bowl victory.
The Vikings entered the game with a 12-0 record, their best start since 2009. The Giants, who had a 5-7 record, were fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Saquon Barkley added 105 rushing yards and a touchdown.
For the Vikings, quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, but also had two interceptions.
The Vikings' defense, which had been one of the best in the league, struggled to contain the Giants' offense, allowing 410 total yards.
The loss was the Vikings' first since Week 17 of the 2021 season, a span of 19 games.
The Vikings' loss also ended their hopes of securing the number one seed in the NFC playoffs.
The Giants' victory was their fourth in their last five games, improving their playoff chances significantly.
The Vikings will now focus on securing a playoff spot and hoping for a deep run in the postseason.
The loss to the Giants was a tough one for the Vikings, who had been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL this season.
Despite the loss, the Vikings still have a chance to make history this season, as they are still in contention for the NFC North division title.
The Vikings will host the Chicago Bears in their final regular-season game, with the winner taking the division title.
The Giants will host the Philadelphia Eagles in their final regular-season game, with the winner taking the NFC East division title.
The Vikings' loss to the Giants was a reminder that no team is unbeatable in the NFL, and that every game is crucial in the quest for a perfect season.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins' perfect season remains one of the most impressive achievements in NFL history, and it will take a special team to match it.
The Vikings' loss to the Giants was a tough one, but it was also a reminder that the NFL is a league of parity, and that any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday.
