128 Arrested in Barcelona After Night of Rioting and Looting

Spanish police detained 128 individuals in Barcelona on Sunday night following a night of unrest, vandalism, and looting. The arrests came after groups of young people, many dressed in black, targeted stores and public property in the city center. Fifteen police officers were injured during the incidents.
The unrest began after an unannounced gathering in the city center. The gathering was not authorized by authorities and was organized through social media platforms. The regional police chief of Catalonia, Silvia Kata, described the events as 'unjustified violence' and stated that only two of the detained individuals had prior criminal records.
Police are currently reviewing the personal files of those detained. The unrest in Barcelona comes amidst similar disturbances in other European countries, including France, Italy, and Albania, which have also seen incidents of looting and violence.
Kata emphasized that the gathering was not organized and that the violence was unprovoked. She also noted that the police are investigating the personal backgrounds of those detained to understand the motivations behind the unrest.
