Investigations Opened into Medical Waste Management Contracts in Morocco

Moroccan authorities have initiated investigations into contracts funded by the National Initiative for Human Development (INIDH). The contracts, awarded to support the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, were intended for the purchase of ambulances and medical waste management.

The regional authorities of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region have ordered administrative investigations into the records of these contracts. The probe follows concerns about the lack of visible impact from the projects on the ground.

INIDH, a Moroccan government initiative, aims to improve social conditions and support vulnerable populations. The initiative has funded various projects, including those related to medical waste management and ambulance procurement.

The investigations come amid broader scrutiny of public spending and the effectiveness of government initiatives in Morocco. The regional authorities are examining the administrative processes and financial transactions related to the contracts to ensure transparency and accountability.

Medical waste management is a critical issue in Morocco, with concerns about environmental and health impacts. The contracts under investigation were intended to address these issues by providing necessary equipment and infrastructure.

As the investigations continue, the Moroccan authorities are emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in public spending. The probe aims to ensure that funds allocated for social protection and health initiatives are used effectively and efficiently.
